Masters Exchange for UCD Law Students

Fourth Meeting of the CIEL network on the UCD Law School Master Exchange Programme, 10 October 2011, University of Antwerp, Belgium

A significant development in the internationalization of the School is the masters exchange agreement in the field of Comparative, International and European Law (CIEL). The agreement involves five other partner law schools – the University of Antwerp (Belgium), the University of Maastricht (the Netherlands), the University of Mannheim (Germany), the University Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona (Spain), and the University of Toulouse 1 – Capitole (France). The UCD Law School is now receiving and sending students under the exchange programme.

Students on the programme study for one semester at UCD taking modules from the LL.M. programme and spend the second semester at one of the partner universities. The final semester is spent writing a dissertation to be supervised by a member of staff at UCD and a member of staff from the university visited in the second semester. Students receive a Masters degree from UCD and a certificate recognizing their participation in the exchange programme.

Professor Joe McMahon and Dr. Marie-Luce Paris visited the Law Faculty of the University of Antwerp on the occasion of the annual meeting of the CIEL network. This is the fourth meeting of the network after the Toulouse meeting (October 2009), Dublin meeting (March 2010) and Barcelona meeting (October 2010). Many topics were discussed ranging from the successful experiences of last year’s exchange students to further development of the network including doctoral exchanges and research projects.
