Registration open for 2012 Undergraduate Awards of Ireland
Students must register now if they wish to guarantee an opportunity of submitting to the 2012 Undergraduate Awards of Ireland, which will open submissions on 2 April 2012.

Submissions will be accepted from final and penultimate year undergraduate students enrolled in degree programmes in any third level institution on the island of Ireland in the academic year 2010/2011 (full-time and part-time) and from graduates who were final year students enrolled in degree programmes in any third level institution on the island of Ireland in the academic year 2010/2011 (full time and part time).
Submissions should consist of essay, projects and similar assessments (of between 1750-5000 words) that have been completed and graded as part of normal coursework for consideration under the appropriate academic category, including Law and Business & Economics. Any assessed coursework that received a grade of B+ or above should be reviewed for possible submission and students are encouraged to contact their lecturers for advice in this regard.

In the Law category of the 2011 Undergraduate Awards, four UCD students were shortlisted, out of a total of fifteen overall.

James P. Fagan
Title: 'Of Justice and Jurisdiction: The Doctrine of forum non conveniens' (submitted in International Commercial Litigation)
Aoife MacDermott
Title: 'Juries in the 21st Century - Dealing with Technological Change' (submitted in Current Issues in Law and Politics)
Carla Smyth
Title: 'Moral Panics and Their Effect on Society' (submitted in Current Issues in Law and Politics)
The School congratulates Nichola, James, Aoife and Carla on this distinction and hopes that it will encourage other undergraduate students to follow in their footsteps.
The eleven other students who were shortlisted in Law were from the following institutions: TCD, 5; QUB, 3; NUIG, 2; UU, 1. The overall winner was Trevor Glavey from NUIG, whose work was entitled 'Enforcement of EU Competition Law and Respect for Human Rights'.
