MOP to sponsor new PhD scholarship series

Matheson Ormsby Prentice (MOP) has announced that it is to sponsor a new series of doctoral scholarships at the UCD School of Law.

The scholarships, the first of which will commence in September 2012, will fund full time doctoral research in the commercial law field. The sponsorship comprises three four year PhD scholarships, which cover tuition fees and an annual bursary, with applications being sought for research in topics including financial services law, company law and corporate governance.

The closing deadline for applications for the first scholarship is 8 May 2012.

Commenting on the sponsorship agreement, Tara Doyle, Trainee Liaison Partner with Matheson Ormsby Prentice said: "Our core values as a firm are centred around the calibre of our people and achieving excellence in everything we do. We are pleased to partner with UCD to support these scholarships, which will promote academic excellence in commercial law, and will help to foster continued learning and development in this important field."

Prof. Colin Scott, Dean UCD School of Law, said: "We are most appreciative of the foresight of Matheson Ormsby Prentice in recognising the importance of doctoral research in the School, and their generous support for a scholarship in the field of Commercial Law. UCD School of Law places great emphasis on the role of doctoral research in developing richer understanding of contemporary legal problems, in engaging with the transformative potential of law for economic and social activity, and in training the next generation of legal researchers and practitioners."
