Parliamentary briefings by Dr Gavin Barrett

Dr Gavin Barrett, senior lecturer in the UCD School of Law, was invited to address members of parliament, parliamentary researchers and academics at the Turkish Grand National Assembly in Ankara recently. Speaking on the theme of The Use of Parliamentary Committees to Exercise Oversight: Some Observations from the Field of European Affairs, Dr. Barrett presented offered comparative reflections, joining with speakers from the Czech, Dutch and Turkish parliaments and academics from Turkey and abroad who addressed the theme of parliamentary oversight.

Dr. Barrett has also addressed the Joint Oireachtas Sub-Committee on the Referendum on the Intergovernmental Treaty on Stability, Coordination and Governance in the Economic and Monetary Union on the implications of the Fiscal Treaty and, more recently has spoken to the Joint Committee on European Union Affairs on the role of National Parliaments in European Union Affairs.
