UCD PhD student wins IRCHSS scholarship for study of migrants' rights

The IRCHSS has awarded Christina Gotzelmann a postgraduate scholarship for her doctoral research on "the protection of Migrant Families in Ireland - a Comparative Perspective" in which she analyses the legal situation of family members of migrants in Ireland.

Christina describes her research as follows:

"Taking a comparative approach and using a combination of research methods, I aim to assess what level of protection is afforded to families of migrants in Ireland and to discuss how the level of protection could be enhanced."

Christina's research is supervised by Dr Gavin Barrett and Dr Eoin Carolan. She started her PhD in September 2011 and was awarded the UCD School of Law doctoral scholarship. She graduated with a 'Diplom' in Business Administration and a Certificate in European Law studies from the Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg, Germany, and holds an LL.M in European Law from the Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg and an LL.M from UCD. Before commencing her PhD at UCD, she completed an internship in the Migrant Rights Centre Ireland and a traineeship at the European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions (Eurofound).
