Studying law at UCD / 在都柏林大学学习法律
Shuo Liu has recently commenced a PhD in UCD School of Law. She writes here about how she came to do so.
I came to University College Dublin in 2008 as a law pre-Masters student. It was an amazing year for I was abroad for the first time in my life and I used my time and freedom to explore Ireland as well as other European cultures. In that year, with the help from the School of Law and the UCD Confucius Institute, my academic ability was greatly improved. This enabled me to enjoy my LL.M throughout the course without worrying too much about my English or misunderstanding the culture. In 2010, while finishing the LL.M degree successfully, I also managed to travel with my fellow students to visit European Union institutions, and partake in an internship with the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Geneva. Through my studies I discovered my interests in legal research, therefore I applied for a PhD with UCD School of Law. I am honoured that the School of Law awarded me the UCD PhD scholarship to carry on my research.
In my PhD, I will be conducting research on the topic of “Asylum in China – An Interdisciplinary Study of Law and Anthropology”, which belongs to the Public International Law and Human Rights Law stream. I want to enrich my knowledge of the relevant areas and creatively contribute to the field of refugee law, by adding the Chinese perspective. Judging from my previous experience in UCD, I am certain I will have an enjoyable and intellectually rewarding time.

我作为一名法学预科生于2008年来到爱尔兰都柏林大学。那是意义非凡的一年，因为我第一次远离家乡独自生活在海外，我利用几乎所有的时间和精力来了解和学习爱尔兰和其他欧洲国家的文化。这一年，在都柏林大学法学院和孔子学院的帮助下，我的学习能力和学术水平有了非常大的提高；这使得我能够在接下来的一年中享受整个法学硕士（LL.M）课程的学习，不用过于担心自己的英语或者误解西方法律文化。我在2010年顺利毕业获得法学硕士学位，同时我利用课余时间和同学一起参观了欧盟的主要机构，在位于日内瓦的联合国人权高专进行了为期两个月的实习。在学习过程中，我发现自己对于法学研究非常感兴趣，于是我申请了都柏林大学法学院的博士。我感到非常荣幸都柏林大学法学院给予我博士生奖学金，支持我的深造研究。
我的博士论文题目是“庇护在中国－法学和人类学的交叉研究”，它属于国际公法和人权法范畴。我希望在博士学习期间丰富我的和这一题目相关的知识积累，并且有创造性地在难民法领域做出贡献。从我以往在都柏林大学的学习经验来看，我非常确定我将会度过一段难忘并且富有收获的时光。
