UCD Law Review launches Volume 12

The Hon. Mr. Justice Peter Kelly, President of the Commercial Court, was the guest speaker at the recent launch of Volume 12 of the UCD Law Review. The Review is a student-run, peer-reviewed journal, containing an array of articles from Irish and international students, on topics including human rights, competition law, intellectual property law and land law. Being part of the Law Review allows students to hone their writing and editing skills and to apply their knowledge of the law. Arthur Cox are the title sponsor of the UCD Law Review, while A&L Goodbody sponsor the prize for Outstanding Article. Alan Roberts, Partner with A&L Goodbody, presented the Outstanding Article prize for Kieran McCarthy's piece on “The Prosecution of Homosexuality in English and Irish Law 1533 – 1993”. Mr. Justice Kelly also commended all six authors, a number of whom were present in person, on their individual articles and on the level of knowledge, research, and dedication attributed to each one.

Members of the current Board, including Cliana Carroll, Editor-in-Chief of Volume 12, and members of previous Boards were present for the launch of the publication. The launch was also attended by members of the Judiciary, including The Hon. Mr. Justice Roderick Murphy, The Hon. Ms. Justice Elizabeth Dunne, and The Hon. Mr. Justice Gerard Hogan, who wrote the foreword for the journal. Also in attendance were members of the UCD School of Law faculty, including Professor Colin Scott, Dean of Law, and Dr. Oonagh Breen and Dr. Gavin Barrett, the current Academic Advisors to the UCD Law Review. Dr. Oonagh Breen announced that both she and Dr. Barrett would be stepping down as Academic Advisors to the Review after 12 years, and Dr. Niamh Howlin and Dr. Kevin Costello would be taking up the Advisory positions; Dr. Howlin is a previous Law Review Editor. Miriam Keane, Deputy Editor of Volume 12, was announced as Editor-in-Chief designate for the coming year.
