14th Annual Irish European Law Forum

The 14th Annual Irish European Law Forum was held on February 25th, 2011 in Newman House, Dublin, organised under the auspices of the UCD School of Law.  The theme of this year’s Forum was “Frontiers in European Environmental Law and Governance”, and the event was attended by leading figures of contemporary European environmental governance. 

In the first session, on the climate change challenge, the invited expert audience heard papers by Dr. Mary Robinson (Mary Robinson Foundation  - Climate Justice), Professor Alan Boyle (University of Edinburgh and Essex Court Chambers) and Dr. Javier de Cendra (University College London), discussed by Professor Sharon Turner (Queen’s University Belfast). 

In the second session, on the challenge of integrating environmental concerns into other EU policy areas, the audience heard papers from Professor Ludwig Krämer (College of Europe and University of Bremen) and Professor Joe McMahon (UCD), discussed by Dr. Owen McIntyre (University College Cork). 

In the final session, on the challenge of improving enforcement of European environmental law, the audience heard papers from Professor Jonas Ebbesson (University of Stockholm and Aarhus Convention Compliance Committee), Liam Cashman (DG Environment, European Commission) and Dr. Suzanne Kingston (UCD), discussed by Dr. Áine Ryall (University College Cork).
