Housing Law Seminar
On Wednesday November 17th the UCD Constitutional Studies Group held a seminar reflecting on recent developments in housing law. The three speakers—Dr Neil Maddox BL (NUI Maynooth), Dr Angela Ward BL (adjunct professor, UCD School of Law), and Dr Fiona de Londras (UCD School of Law)— discussed recent developments in the European Court of Human Rights, questions relating to nuisance and negligence of housing authorities for the provision and standard of housing, and the implications for housing authorities of the administrators of the ECHR Act 2003. Attended by a mixture of local authority employees, legal professionals, students and civil servants the seminar involved a lively discussion of the difficulties facing local authorities in navigating the waters of their private and public law obligations.
