School of Law to host Industrial Relations Conference

The Industrial Relations Act 1990 involved the most far reaching changes in Irish Labour Law since the 1940s and effected substantial modification of the law both in the area of trade disputes and industrial relations generally.

The 1990 Act was enacted on the 18th July 1990 and to mark the 20th anniversary of its enactment the School of Law, University College Dublin is hosting a High Level Conference on the 16th and 17th July 2010 which will assess the impact of the 1990 Act from the perspective of the institutions, the social partners and the lawyers.

Speakers will include Bertie Ahern TD who, as Minister for Labour, was responsible for introducing the legislation; Dara Calleary TD (Minister for Labour Affairs); Joe Wallace (University of Limerick); Kieran Mulvey (Labour Relations Commission); Kevin Duffy (Labour Court); Kevin Bonner (former Secretary General of the Department of Labour); Jack O’Connor (SIPTU); Brendan McGinty (IBEC); Ms Justice Mary Laffoy (Judge of the High Court); Professor Keith Ewing (University of London); and Anthony Kerr (University College Dublin).
