Insights into Non Law Careers for Law Graduates

The UCD Career Development Centre, UCD Alumni Relations and the UCD Sutherland School of Law recently organised a panel event on the topic of ‘Non Law Careers for Law Graduates’.  This event was organised for interested law students pursuing a law degree who are unsure if they wish to pursue a legal career at this stage and are open to alternative options outside of legal roles.

Four of our UCD Law School alumni participated in the event which included an hour of discussion from the panel and Q&A with the student audience, followed by informal discussion in the Gardiner Atrium over refreshments.

Our alumni panel included Alex Costello, who currently works in the Department of Finance but previously worked in a number of US multinationals including Google and Salesforce (BCL, 2009); Maeve Farrell, who is a Strategy Manager (Talent & Organisation) with ‎Accenture (BBL, 2010); John Logue, Chief Executive Officer of international children’s charity Suas – and formerly President of the Union of Students in Ireland (BCL 2012); and finally Aine Sperrin, who is a member of the Policy and Research section at the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission and a PhD Candidate, Centre of Disability Law and Policy, NUIG (BCL 2010).

The event was opened by Professor Brian Hutchinson and chaired by Sophie Carey of the Career Development Centre.  It proved to be an engaging and interesting event with many students staying for well over an hour after the event to talk to the panellists who were enthusiastic and happy to speak further with students.
