In a recent survey, carried out by the Higher Education Authority, statistics show that school leavers in Dublin 6 have a 99% chance of attending third level college, compared to an average of 12% from schools located in socio-economically disadvantaged areas, designated as DEIS (Delivering Equality of Opportunity in Schools).
UCD has developed close relationships with 18 DEIS schools in Dublin and works collaboratively with them to encourage and support their students to consider studying at UCD. Under UCD Sutherland Opportunity supported by Mason Hayes & Curran, a Moot Court Programme is in development for selected DEIS schools that enables students to participate in mock trials as barristers, solicitors, defendants, judges, jury etc.
This is aimed at supporting greater interest in the law and legal process among students, creating affinity with UCD Sutherland School of Law and building confidence in undertaking a degree in law.
