LAW WITH POLITICS
BCL (Hons)
The degree will introduce students to fundamental legal concepts and principles, cultivate an ability to analyse law and engage in legal reasoning, promote a critical understanding of how politics and political theory shape and develop law, and impart research skills in the fields of law and politics. Including many of the core modules of the BCL programme, this programme also includes political theory and Irish politics as well as a choice of modules on international relations and comparative politics in the first stage.
The second stage introduces Land Law, Law of the European Union, Criminal Law and a number of optional modules from Law and Politics.
The final two stages are spent studying a range of optional and elective modules from the Schools of Law and Politics and International Relations.

The career opportunities open to BCL (Law with Politics) graduates include those that are open to BCL graduates. Many may undertake further training to qualify as a barrister (Honorable Society of King’s Inns) or solicitor (Law Society of Ireland), students are advised to contact the professional body concerned to ascertain their entry requirements. An increasing number of law graduates are turning towards careers in accountancy, management, media and public service. In addition, the BCL (Law with Politics) will serve as a basis for a flexible range of other career opportunities both inside and outside Ireland.
