Appreciative Inquiry is based on the belief that organisations and institutions are living systems and are therefore interdependent, inter-reliant and interconnected. This belief has consequences for how we approach the way we work, communicate with others and instigate change.
The more traditional mechanistic view of organistions suggests that action is linearly sequenced and that change happens through a process of investigation followed by action. The 'living systems' perspective understands that every interaction with the system will produce a change. Merely by asking a question, we change the system. Engaging in conversations we change the system.
