SCONUL
Access
The SCONUL
Access co-operative borrowing scheme allows UCD academic staff
and postgraduate research students registered for a PhD, MPhil, MLitt or similar qualification awarded purely by research to borrow in
over 180 academic
libraries in the UK and Ireland. Please note that this
scheme does not include Trinity College Dublin.
To join SCONUL Access return
a completed application
form to the level 1 information desk in the James Joyce Library.
Your SCONUL Access card will be available the next day (Monday -
Thursday).
Check the website
of the library you intend to visit for opening hours, access regulations
and other information when planning your research. It is
important to bring your UCD ID with you when visiting other SCONUL
Access libraries. Please note that you will be responsible for material
borrowed from participating libraries.

ALCID
A co-operative scheme between a group of participating Irish university libraries, which enables Staff and Postgraduate students (Doctoral, Masters by research and by exam) have access and reference rights to the stock of participating libraries.
Qualifying
UCD readers can apply for an ALCID card at the Information Desk
in any UCD Library or download the ALCID
Reader Ticket Application Form [PDF]. The cards are valid for
one academic year only but can be reapplied for annually. Undergraduates
are not eligible and should see Other
requests for access below.

- National College of Art and Design (NCAD)
- National University of Ireland, Galway

- Saint Patrick's College, Drumcondra, Dublin
- Trinity College Dublin
- University College Dublin
- University College Cork
- University of Limerick

Other requests for access
to academic libraries
UCD Staff and
Students who wish to consult material not available in UCD can apply
for a Letter of Introduction to visit another library. To apply,
please refer to the Level 1 information desk in the James Joyce
Library and ask for a Letter of Introduction. Complete the
form with your details and we will stamp and sign the letter for
you. This service is available Monday to Saturday during
information desk opening hours.
During the
summer vacation UCD Students who wish to consult material not available
in UCD can also apply for a CONUL card. Please return a completed
application
form to the level 1 information desk in the James Joyce Library,
or contact the desk for further information.
