This page provides information about Richview Library's mapping service and links to websites where you can view and buy maps online.

Richview Library's Mapping Service

Richview Library holds a collection of Ordnance Survey Ireland sheet maps ranging in scale from 1:1,000 to 1:575,000. Some series and editions can also be printed from OSi's E-Commerce service.

Staff and students of UCD are welcome to visit Richview Library to browse through the printed sheet collection and take photocopies from these. They may also purchase mapping from OSi's E-Commerce service for their classwork, research, projects, theses and other educational applications. To comply with use of OSI data an OSI Permit Application Form must be completed for theses, journal articles, conference papers and similar.

The following map series are available via OSi's E-Commerce service:

  • 1 : 1,000 urban mapping
  • 1 : 2,500 suburban mapping
  • 1 : 5,000 rural mapping
  • 6inch mapping (1:10,560) - dating from mid 20th century
  • 25inch mapping (1:2,500) - dating from early to mid 20th century
  • Aerial photographs - dating from 2000 to 2005 (both colour)
  • Historical mapping - 1st edition 6inch maps and 2nd edition 25inch maps

Prices range from €4.00 for an A4 map up to €23.50 for an A0 map.

Alan Godfrey Maps

Includes around 50 maps for towns in Ireland from around the turn of the twentieth century.

Altea Gallery 

Holds antiquarian maps and atlases including an Irish section.

Brown Projects Ltd.  

Includes a large selection of historical maps produced in the last 150 years. The Irish collection includes:

- maps by Roque, Duncan, Petty and Wren

- major Ordnance Survey and other map sets from the 1st edition of 1850 and subsequent editions to 1910.

Collins Bartholomew  

Provides a comprehensive map production and digital mapping service with many Irish maps.

Eneclann

Eneclann is a Trinity College Dublin campus company and publishes heritage and historical data. Maps for purchase include the 1851 Dublin City Census (which includes the 1847 5' Dublin town plans) and other Irish historic maps.

Folding Landscapes  

Folding Landscapes deals with three areas around Galway:

- The Aran Islands
- The Burren
- Connemara.

Harry Margary 

Harry Margary is a publisher of historic maps and sells facsimile copies of the City of Dublin 18th century Rocque maps.

Imperial Mapping Company 

Includes 1 inch to the mile Ordnance Survey Historical Maps, 1860-1863.

Irish Genealogical Society International

IGSI is an American site selling Irish maps, including Griffiths Valuation maps.

Irish Georgian Society

The Irish Georgian Society sells facsimile copies of:

- Charles Brooking - A map of the city and suburbs of Dublin (1728)
- 18th century Dublin City Rocque maps
- Noble & Keenan - Co. Kildare (1752)

Irish Historic Towns Atlas (IHTA) 

IHTA was established by the Royal Irish Academy in 1981 aiming to record the topographical development of a selection of large and small Irish towns.

Each town is published separately and includes maps with detailed text.

The Royal Irish Academy also sells facsimile copies of Alexander Taylor's 1783 map of County Kildare.

- Griffith's Valuation Survey Maps & Plans, covering nearly every townland in Ireland
- Dublin City 1847 Ordinance Survey Town Plans.

Irish Townland Maps

The Past Homes Maps are the 1st edition 6 inch scale Ordnance Survey maps of Ireland, surveyed between 1829 and 1843 - also known as the "Townland maps".

The NLI has historic Dublin and Irish maps. From their series of Folders of Historical Documents.

OSI is the official Irish mapping agency and produces maps in a variety of scales in paper and digital format. It provides:

  • Digital Terrain Models
  • Historical maps
  • Urban, rural and tourism & leisure maps.
