James Joyce Library

General Reference (GR)

The General Reference Collection is located opposite the Information Desk on Level 1 of the James Joyce Library.

Examples include:

Level 2 Reference Collections

A Subject reference Collection is located opposite the Information Desk on Level 2 of the James Joyce Library .

It covers the following subject areas:

  • Arts & Celtic Studies
  • Business
  • Languages, including foreign language dictionaries
  • Human Sciences
Law Reference Collection

A Law reference collection is located in the James Joyce Library,  Level 2  - beside the Law section.

Examples include:

  • Halsbury’s Laws of England
  • Irish Current Law – Monthly Digest
  • Legal dictionaries
  • Terrorism: Documents of International and Local Control, Vols. 1-103
Level 4 Reference Collection

A Subject reference Collection is located opposite the Information Desk on Level 4 of the James Joyce Library

A Selection of Key Electronic Reference Resources

  • Dictionary of Irish Biography. A joint publication of the Royal Irish Academy and Cambridge University Press. Biographical resource offering access to biographies of distinguished persons, [who are deceased], from all walks of life. It includes over 9,000 articles across all fields of endeavour, from Brian Boru to Richard Harris, and includes contributions from UCD academics.
  • Encyclopaedia Britannica Online (Academic Edition) Comprehensive and scholarly reference material with over 100,000 authoritative articles across a range of topics. Also includes atlases, maps, statistics, dictionaries and live news feeds.
  • Oxford Dictionary of National Biography A biographical resource offering access to over 50,000 biographies of distinguished persons, [who are deceased], from all walks of life who have shaped the lives of the British Isles and beyond.
  • Oxford English Dictionary (OED) Online. The definitive record of the English language, updated regularly.
  • Oxford Reference Online Premium Collection Oxford University Press' reference titles, including language and subject dictionaries, quotations, maps and timelines. See a complete list of Oxford Reference Collection titles.
  • The World Factbook (CIA).  Comprehensive factual data on over 250 countries and geographical areas worldwide. Country profiles includes economic, social, political and geographical statistics and figures. Regularly revised and updated.
