There is a rich variety of archival collections held in UCD Library Special Collections, spanning four centuries of Irish history and culture, and encompassing such diverse subjects as literature, Gaelic language and folklore, music, genealogy and political history.

UCD Special Collections holds a collection of modern literary papers in the area of modern Anglo-Irish and English literature, including poetry, drama, short stories, and novels. 

This collection of modern literary archives are a unique asset to UCD due to the prestigious literary output of its graduates and staff, as well as Ireland’s proud national reputation for producing some of the most important dramatic and literary works in the world.

The creative processes which all works of literature undergo during their composition find expression in the numerous drafts, notebooks, diaries, and correspondence contained within the archive.

The presence of such archives in Special Collections testifies to UCD’s recognition of the value of its literary heritage.
