How to get access to UCD Library

As a registered student you will have a UCD student card - this is also your library card. You are entitled to use each of our 5 Libraries. Your card is needed to:

  • Enter and exit the Library
  • Borrow books
  • Borrow a laptop.   

Have you forgotten to bring in your card?

  • Get a temporary access card at the Library desk during service hours. Or at James Joyce Library you can use the self-service kiosk to get one.  These cost €1.00.
  • You cannot borrow books with a temporary access card.

Have you lost your student / Library card?

  • Report lost cards immediately – see details below.
  • To obtain a replacement card contact UCard.
  • Re-issued or replaced cards take 15 minutes to be activated.
  • We regret that your new card cannot be used to borrow /enter the Library until it is activated.
  • Need assistance using your UCD student card to enter the Library? Come and talk to us during service hours.

Your UCD Staff UCard is also your library card. To obtain a staff UCard contact UCard for details.

  • New staff UCards take 15 minutes to be activated.
  • We regret that your new UCard cannot be used to borrow /enter the Library until it is activated.
