QR Codes

UCD Library is using QR (Quick Response) codes on a trial basis to improve access to our services and resources.

Introduction

QRs codes are now being used in our libraries to provide additional information on Library services.

To use QR codes, it is necessary to have a camera phone, as well as QR reader software downloaded to the phone.  This software is commonly available on smart phones, iPhones, and phones with the Android operating system.

What are QR Codes?

  • QR Codes are two-dimensional black-and-white square barcodes.
  • Once scanned, the codes provide users with links to additional information, such as websites, additional information or documents, about the resource or service.

How to use a QR Code

To use a QR code you will need to:

  1. Have a QR Code Reader application installed on your phone.
  2. Take a photo of the barcode. This will link you to a mobile version of the webpage.

Further Help

Most mobile phones have a camera and internet browser that can capture QR Codes. Below are examples of popular QR Code Readers that can be downloaded. Some are free and some must be purchased.
