Unilever

Since its foundation in 1930, Unilever has been making products that address consumer needs in nutrition, hygiene and personal care. Unilever is able to serve changing needs by innovating constantly. Our innovative capacity has science and technology at its heart, and a mindset of constantly exploring and developing new distinctive products that add vitality to life for our consumers. The Unilever Food and Health Research Institute brings the Unilever Vitality Mission to life with cutting edge science & technology innovations in foods.

Unilever Food and Health Research Institute

At the Unilever Food and Health Research Institute, it is our passion to make ‘the healthy choice an easy choice’ a reality. This requires a thorough understanding of the real health issues that consumers face. We find technical solutions to deal with these issues.

With a long history in vegetable oils we have broadened our focus to include a wider range of ingredients. Tea; fruit & vegetables; dairy and soy. Benefits of these natural ingredients in the areas of cardiovascular health; beauty; weight management; immune health & strength and mental development & performance are being explored at the Unilever Food and Health Research Institute.

Our leading science and technology areas are:

  • Nutrition and health
  • Flavour generation and delivery
  • Food microbiology and preservation
  • Food structuring and processing
  • Consumer perception and behaviour

The Unilever Food and Health Research Institute works closely together with a global network of specialised nutritionists. They are involved in each step of the innovation process. From idea generation, to brand innovation strategy, to nutrition research to underpinning claims, to product development and nutrition communication and support in the launch countries. Fully aligned with marketing, this nutrition capability includes the scientific knowledge from the Unilever Food and Health Research Institute, regional insights, preferences and conditions and the experience from external networks and partnerships.
