Economics workshop: Agro-food technologies: opportunities and barriers. Report from workshop 2

The second of two workshops to disseminate key findings from the Economic Sciences workpackage of the Lipgene project was held at the Feringapark Hotel, Munich, Germany on 9th December 2005.

The workshop discussed the potential of existing and new technologies in improving the nutritional composition of animal and plant foods to benefit health, particularly in relation to the metabolic syndrome. Dr James Fry, coordinator of the Lipgene economic sciences workpackage, also presented data concerning the cost implications of modifications to animal nutrition and of plant biotechnologies.
