Vice Presidents' Cup
The Vice-Presidents' Cup is an annual international inter-varsity competition run by the Literary & Historical Society. This year it will be taking place on the 28th-29th October, and we hope to see you there!
It is the first inter-varsity competition on the Irish University calendar, and the first of its size and calibre across the British Isles, marking the beginning of the Debating Season for the academic year, as well as the first preparatory competition for the World Universities’ Debating Championships.
As a long-running and prestigious competition, it is arguably the major highlight in UCD's debating calendar, attracting teams from across Ireland, the British Isles, as well as farther afield (most recently Continental Europe and North America).
In recent years the competition has been a regular point of celebration for Trinity College's College Historical Society, who have taken home the overall title for the last five year. The current reigning champions are Niamh Ni Mhaoileoin and Colm Denny, who beat teams from the University Philosophical Society and two teams from the University of Cambridge Union in the final.
Our outstanding calibre of adjudication team makes this the perfect preparatory competition. Chief Adjudicators are Sam Block; former European Champion and co-CA of Manila Worlds 2012, and Stephen Boyle; Irish Times Winner, Worlds Quarter-Finalist and DCA of Belgrade Euros 2012. DCA will be Rogier Baart, 8th best ESL Speaker and ESL Semi-Finalist at Euros 2011. Registration is now open through the form below.
Our convenor, Cormac Duffy, will be happy to deal with any queries, you can contact him at vpc@literaryandhistorical.com
