This medal, established by Dr Geoffrey J. Bourke, Professor of Public Health Medicine and Epidemiology at the University (1966 - 1994), is awarded annually to the student who, having passed the examinations of Stage Six Medicine, attains First Place in the module Public Health Medicine, Epidemiology & International Health.

The accumulated assets of the Catholic University of Ireland have been made available by the trustees to the Governing Authority for the establishment of prizes to be known as Catholic University Medals and to be held in the University by students of the UCD School of Medicine and Medical Science. The trustees also award prizes out of the Molloy Bequest and the Ambrose Birmingham Medal.

- Molloy Prizes
Established to commemorate the Right Reverend Monsignor Molloy, Professor of Physics (1874 – 1906, Catholic University of Ireland), a proportion of the annual income of the Molloy Bequest Fund is devoted to providing prizes in Physics and Chemistry for students of the Medical School.
Subject to any variation in the fund income, two prizes are typically awarded annually, one in Physics and one in Chemistry at the end of Stage One of the Medicine Degree Programme.
The balance of the annual income from the Molloy Bequest Fund is applied to the maintenance and extension of the Molloy Collection of Physics Apparatus.

- Ambrose Birmingham Medal
Prof Ambrose Birmingham was Dean and Professor of Anatomy at the Catholic University of Ireland Medical School from 1887 to 1905. Through his zeal and ability, the school was modernised and survived the long critical period from 1880 to 1909. The Birmingham Medal is a token of the debt owed by the University for this contribution to the continuity of its traditions. This fund has been greatly augmented by gifts from the Archbishops of Dublin. The medal is awarded on the results of a special examination in Anatomy held in March. Candidates must have successfully completed Semester One, Stage 3 of the Medicine Degree Programme.

- James B. Coakley Medal for Dissection
This medal is awarded in appreciation of Prof James B. Coakley who was Professor of Anatomy from 1962 to 1988. This award was established in the Anatomy Division of the Department of Human Anatomy and Physiology, Faculty of Medicine.
The medal is awarded annually for the best dissection of an assigned specimen during the academic year by a Medicine, Physiotherapy or Radiography student who has completed one year of Anatomy study.

- Fitzgerald Medal
This medal was established to commemorate the FitzGerald Brothers – Oliver, Patrick and Gerald – who, having graduated with distinction from UCD’s Medical School, were subsequently outstanding as consultants and as teachers.
The medal, which is presented approximately every five years, may be awarded to any clinician or research worker in the field of the medical sciences on the basis of significant contributions to human well-being in health or disease. These contributions will have been demonstrated by published material mainly originating in Ireland, as a geographical unit, or by ongoing research work.

The Dr Henry Hutchinson Stewart Scholarships are awarded annually in the following subject areas:

The awards are based on the results of the Examinations in those subjects in the Schools of Medicine and Health Sciences of the Constituent NUI Universities and the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland.
The recipients of the Scholarship and Medals in each subject are determined by an Extern Examiner, who considers selected examination material of the students nominated by each of the Constituent Universities and Recognised Colleges concerned. In certain subjects, students are nominated by their University/College to sit an essay-based examination on the outcome of which the awards will be made. Students in the Schools of Medicine and Health Sciences in each of the Constituent Universities, and RCSI are automatically eligible for consideration for these Scholarships. There are no special application procedures or entry requirements.

- Dr John F. Keenan Research Scholarship
A one year travelling research scholarship in honour of Dr John F Keenan is awarded out of the Keenan Fund as often as funds permit. Candidates must have obtained honours in at least one of the medical examinations of the curriculum or have obtained honours marks in Medicine, Surgery or Obstetrics in the Final Medical Examination and must have pursued their whole undergraduate courses in University College Dublin. Candidates must have qualified within the seven years previous to the award. Under the terms of the bequest, the scholarship is limited to Irish citizens.

- Kirwan Medal and Prize in Ophthalmology
This award has been established from a fund donated by Mrs Mary Kirwan in memory of her husband, Lt. Col. E.W. O'G. Kirwan, one of the first medical graduates of the University. The medal and prize (approximate value: €445) will be awarded on the results of the Ophthalmology component of the Stage 4 Module, Ophthalmology & Otolaryngology, combined with a special scholarship paper in Ophthalmology, taken prior to the clinical and oral examinations. A candidate must receive an award of honours to be eligible for the medal and prize. Candidates should enter for this award when entering Stage 4 Medicine.

John McGrath Memorial Prize in Pathology and John McGrath Memorial Prize in Legal Medicine were established by the late Mrs Margaret McGrath in memory of her husband, the late Professor John McGrath.

The John McGrath Memorial Prize in Pathology is awarded each year to the student who obtains the highest combined marks in Pathology components of Core Modules taken at the end of Semesters 2 Stage 3 and Semester 1 Stage 4 of the Medicine Degree Programme provided that:
(i) All component Core Modules of each Stage are passed together at the same time;
(ii) The student is presenting for the examination for the first time.

John McGrath Memorial Prize in Forensic & Legal Medicine
The John McGrath Memorial Prize in Forensic & Legal Medicine may be awarded each year to the student who obtains the highest marks in Forensic & Legal Medicine at the University Examination in Stage 5 of Medicine provided that:

This medal has been established in memory of the late Dr O'Farrell by his widow. Dr O'Farrell was a radiologist who had a major role in initiating radiography education in Ireland. The Olive Fleming Memorial Award by the Irish Institute of Radiography and Radiation Therapy is given for Best Practical Student in the Graduating Class as nominated by the clinical departments. Two students are nominated from each of the Dublin sites and one from each of the regional sites by the Clinical Practice Tutor in each centre. From this group of students the overall stage 4 clinical grades awarded is reviewed at the end of the Programme and the student with the highest overall Clinical Practice grade for stage 4 will be the recipient of the medal.

The medal is awarded annually for the best original article accepted for publication in an international peer-reviewed journal arising from a Stage 4 radiography project. The publication must be accepted within 18 months of graduation. The Medal is awarded in appreciation of the efforts by current staff member and former Head of School, Kate Matthews to promote increased research activity within the Diagnostic Imaging Section.

- Deirdre Conroy Medal
This medal was established in 2009 by the Diagnostic Imaging Section in memory of the late Deirdre Conroy. Deirdre was a stage 3 Radiography student who had a major role the UCD Kayaking Club and was a leading student representative for her fellow stage 3 Radiography students and for the Erasmus Radiography Programme. It is awarded for the best presentation by a radiography student following their visit to a foreign country under the Erasmus scheme. The presentation would describe the educational and cultural activities he or she experienced whilst abroad.

- Summer Student Research Award (SSRA) Gold Medal
This Medal is awarded annually at the SSRA Student Research Symposium in the October of each Year. The Summer Student Research Award (SSRA) Scheme is an undergraduate research initiative to support and showcase Undergraduate Research affiliated with the UCD School of Medicine and Medical Science. Each year our students are competitively selected based on academic record and interview for selection as an SSRA undergraduate researcher. These research projects led UCD and UCD-affiliated investigators are financially supported by the School. In most cases, the SSRA scheme gives our students there first experience with either laboratory or clinical based research which takes place over an 8-week period during the summer months. On completion of the projects, SSRA students are competitively adjudicated following oral presentation of their work for the SSRA Gold Medal.

Each year the final year students from Medicine nominate their colleagues for the Medicine Student of the Year Award. The Award is presented at the Annual Medicine Gala Dinner.
