Mind-Reading 2017: Mental Health and the Written Word

Mind-Reading 2017 Workshop in DLR Lexicon, Dun LaoghairePresented by dlr LexIcon in collaboration between UCD Child & Adolescent Psychiatry and Oxford University, this one-day programme of talks and workshops seeks to locate and to explore productive interactions between literature and mental health both historically and in the present day.

We will consider the use of literary techniques such as close-reading and textual analysis in medical consultations, and the methods that can be used to increase the well-being and communication skills of medical learners, healthcare providers, patients and family members.

Preconference Questionaire

We ask that all speakers and attendees complete a short pre-conference questionnaire so that we can gather some information about goals as well as the make-up of our audience. It is 15 questions in total.

The link to the survey is available here.

Exhibitions

We will be hosting a two-month long display in the library about mental health, and we do hope that you will enjoy viewing this material during your visit to the Lexicon.

Also our Colleague at UCD, Professor Kevin Malone, will be hosting a linked, curated art installation around the theme of suicide to coincide with the conference. This will be in the Lexicon for one week only.  This will open on Thursday evening- so we hope some attendees will be able to attend this pre-conference event.  This exhibit will run for one week only, with a mediated talk on Tues 14th March for those of you Dublin based. For more information please click here.

Free tickets are available here.

Closing Reception

Please do join us for a social event at the end of the conference. We are organising a reception after the conference on Friday evening, which will take place in the Lexicon itself, where we will also be hosting our exhibition.

Resources from the Conference
