Research Programmes

Research training is now a prerequisite for many medical and scientific careers. The School of Medicine and Medical Science offers medical and science graduates the opportunity to pursue a research degree in a multidisciplinary translational environment focused on increasing knowledge on the prevention and treatment of human disease.

Graduate students carry out original research under the supervision of established researchers associated with the School from The Conway Institute of Biomedical and Biomolecular Science, The Centre for Research in Infectious Disease (both based on the Belfield Campus) and the School’s major teaching hospitals including St Vincent’s University Hospital, Mater University Hospital, Crumlin Children’s Hospital and The National Maternity Hospital, Holles St.

Projects range from laboratory-based research in molecular medicine and cellular biology to patient-focused studies on the impact and treatment of disease. Further education and skills development programmes are available to all research students through programmes in the School, The Conway Institute and The Dublin Molecular Medicine Centre. Students also have the opportunity to hear from and interact with national and international experts at research seminars hosted by the School and The Conway Institute.

Funded fellowships are available for projects in the major research themes of the School:
