About the Midland Regional Hospitals
The Midland Regional Hospitals comprise three acute public hospitals, which collectively provide accident & emergency and secondary healthcare services across the Irish midlands from facilities at Mullingar (Co. Westmeath), Portlaoise (Co. Laois) and Tullamore (Co. Offaly). The hospital group is managed by the Health Service Executive and are subject to ongoing rationalisation and clinical service development.
Midland Regional Hospital, Tullamore
Based in Tullamore, Co. Offaly, this acute hospital provides clinical care in:

- General Medicine
- General Surgery
- Haematology
- Nephrology
- Oncology
- Orthopaedics
- Otolaryngology (ENT)
- Radiology
Some of our undergraduate medical students rotate through this hospital for short periods during their initial medicine and surgery education.
Midland Regional Hospital, Mullingar
This 200-bed acute hospital in Mullligar, Co. Westmeath provides clinical care in:
- General Medicine including Endoscopy, Gerontology, Respiratory Medicine, Endocrinology and Cardiology
- General Surgery
- Obstetrics/Gynaecology
- Accident & Emergency
- Radiology
- Paediatric/Special Care Baby Unit
- Pathology
- Out-Patient Services inc Ophthalmology
Some of our Medicine Interns rotate through this hospital as part of the UCD/HSE Dublin/Mid-Leinster Intern Training Programme.
