UCD Diagnostic Imaging Student wins Best Scientific Paper 2012
UCD Diagnostic Imaging is a leading international radiography and diagnostic imaging research and education centre.
A UCD PhD research student, Mr Francis Zarb, from the Diagnostic Imaging Section of the UCD School of Medicine and Medical Science received the award of Best Scientific Paper Presentation Award 2012 within the topic "Radiographers". At the recent European Congress of Radiology – ECR in Vienna Austria.
His presentation “A novel optimisation strategy in CT results in significant dose reductions” was selected by the subcommittee chairman, based on the evaluation of the subcommittee members, session moderators and session participants. The recipient, a Radiography lecturer in the University of Malta, is in the final year of study in UCD.
His research has focussed upon the important matter of radiation dose optimisation in CT, supervised by Dr Louise Rainford and Mr Shane Foley in Diagnostic Imaging and Dr Mark Mc Entee (University of Sydney). The European Congress of Radiology (ECR), the largest radiological gathering in Europe with over 20,000 participants from 102 countries, took place in Vienna, Austria from the 1st to 5th of March, and is organised by the European Society of Radiology (ESR). Once again the Diagnostic Imaging Section of the School of Medicine and Medical Science was well represented by students and staff alike contributing to refresher courses, scientific sessions and dedicated student sessions and their achievements in the area of Diagnostic Imaging research is again highlighted by this prestigious award.
