UCD Medicine & UCD Conway Raise €8,117 for Prostate Cancer Research
Three teams based at UCD School of Medicine and Medical Science raised a collective total of €8,117 for prostate cancer research and awareness as part of the Movember 2012 campaign. The team included Professor Bill Watson, Principal Investigator at the Prostate Cancer Research Consortium.
Professor Bill Watson said:
Throughout the month of November, more than 50 students and staff members grew their Mos, baked cakes, shook collection buckets and sought donations for the Movember campaign. It was wonderful to see the collective efforts of so many committed students and staff members result in such a fantastic total for the team. As well as raising vital funds for research and awareness, Movember helps us to contextualise for our students the work that we do at UCD in relation to prostate cancer research.
The School published a video in the first week of the campaign which describes the work carried out at UCD as part of the Prostate Cancer Research Consortium:
At a closing event on Thursday 29th November, Professor Watson congratulated and thanked all those who took part, supported and raised funds as part of the campaign. A presentation was made to Tiernan Byrne, who raised a hugely impressive €1,100: placing him at the top of the School leader board. Tiernan also came out on top of the Big Mo on Campus challenge: an inter-varsity competition that included 248 college affiliated campaigners from around the country.
