Body Donors to be Honoured by UCD School of Medicine & Medical Science
A multi-faith service of thanksgiving & remembrance to honour those who have donated their bodies for the advancement of medical education and research will take place on Wednesday, 21 November 2012, at the Church of Our Lady Seat of Wisdom (Belfield).
Family and friends of people who have donated their bodies will attend the service, organised by the Body Donor Programme Office at UCD School of Medicine and Medical Science.
Speakers at the important event will include Professor W. Powderly, Head of School; Professor James FX Jones, Head of Anatomy; Gary F. Perry, MSc., UCD’s Body Donation Programme; Stage 2, Stage 3 and Graduate Entry Medical students; and representatives from the University’s Chaplaincy team.
According to Gary Perry:
The service will give our students an opportunity to connect with the families of our anatomical donors and to express their gratitude for the sacrifices they have made for the advancement of medical education in UCD. The service also gives our prospective donors and the families of current donors an insight into the value that our students place on the priceless gift and privileged opportunity they have been given.”
?The service will include a Procession of Memories where families will symbolically present framed photographs or mementos of their loved ones to our students before the lighting of a Memorial Candle. Light refreshments will be served in the Kevin Barry foyer following the service.
