Clinical Elective Exchanges from 3 Continents
2014 has seen the continuation of the School's successful elective partnerships with medical schools around the world. Recently we have enjoyed hosting students from the USA, China and Sweden.
Every year UCD hosts two students from the University of Wisconsin, and 2 UCD students are selected through the school’s Summer Elective Competition to take clinical rotations in Wisconsin during the summer. This year UCD hosted Jacquelyn Phillips and James Campbell, who undertook rotations in Internal Medicine, Gastroenterology and Peadiatrics. While with us they met with David Ryan and Patrick Boland, both Stage 5 students and winners of sponsored elective places in Wisconsin this summer, to tell them about life living and studying in Wisconsin.

Also, as a part of the global Universitas 21 Clinical Placement Programme, we recently hosted Johan Björklund, from Lund, Sweden, and Chengcheng Gong, from Fudan, China. Chengcheng Gong particularly enjoyed her Neurology rotation with Prof Tubridy and Dr McGuigan at St Vincent’s Hospital, as it gave her a chance to observe diseases which are relatively rare in China, such as MS and Huntingdon’s Disease. As a part of the U21 exchange programme, UCD students will be undertaking clinical electives in Sweden and the UK this summer.
