UCD SMMS Students Can Now Undertake Clinical Training At Beacon Hospital

Mon, 9 February 15 08:58

Founded in 2006, the Beacon Hospital is a 183 bed private acute hospital which treated approximately 96,000 patients in 2014.  It is situated in Sandyford approximately 7 km from the UCD Belfield campus.

The agreement will enable some of our medical students to undertake part of their clinical training at this modern hospital from September 2015.  The hospital joins Ireland’s largest clinical training network which comprises 25 acute, specialist and general hospitals and over 150 primary care centres across the country.  The Beacon Hospital has hosted a number of medical interns as part of the UCD (HSE Dublin/Midlands) Medical Intern Training Programme since 2012.

It is hoped that this collaboration will support inter-disciplinary education and training in emerging technologies.  Through the UCD Smurfit Graduate Business School, UCD will also offer education programmes in healthcare management and leadership to the Beacon Hospital.
