Cycle for Berkeley - Student Fundraiser a Massive Success
Student organisers have officially announced the amount fundraised and wish to thank all who supported this event:
After a long wait we can finally announce the total raised during the 'Cycle for Berkeley fundraising event. Cycle for Berkeley exceeded its fundraising target thanks to the overwhelming generosity of the public and sponsors. To date, the event has raised an incredible €80,281.65 for the injured victims of the Berkeley tragedy. The funds raised will be administered by an independent committee of experienced financial, legal and medical advisers.
We were overwhelmed by the level of support and generosity shown by the public throughout the event both on-site in Dundrum through bucket collections and also online on the official GoFundMe page. Those who participated in the event are to be commended for the energy they put into keeping the bikes going and for having fundraised for the event via their sponsorship cards.
The event ran smoothly over the 72 hours with the help of all the management and security staff in Dundrum Town Centre who were phenomenal in both providing a prime location for the fundraiser and for their kindness in providing the volunteers with security and food and hot drinks throughout the night during the most difficult parts of the event.
A huge thank you must be said to Bank of Ireland, who not only provided sponsorship for the event itself but who also carried out their own fundraising in several of their branches throughout the event, bringing in an outstanding €20,000 for the fund.
Special thanks also to ‘The Counter’ restaurant in Dundrum who kindly supplied the volunteers with meals during the event, and also Starbucks coffee shop in Dundrum who kept the participants going throughout the 72 hours with plenty of coffee. Also, a huge thanks to Banaman sales & Printing IT who provided the t shirts and posters/banners respectively for the event which helped to raise awareness about the fundraiser.
Heartfelt thanks goes to the staff at both UCD Sport and Fitness and the DIT Fit2go gym supplied the spinning bikes for the event. UCD Students Union also very kindly supplied the volunteers with water, isotonic drinks and energy bars.
