Dublin Host Major European Surgery Meeting
The European Society for Coloproctology held its annual scientific meeting in Dublin’s Convention Centre from 23rd – 25th September 2015. The 10th annual meeting attracted over 2,000 delegates from more than 50 countries. Keynote presentations during the conference addressed subjects such as bowel preparation in colorectal surgery, sacral nerve stimulation for bowel disorders, Hirschsprung’s Disease and its variants as well as a critical evaluation of the benefits of robotic colorectal surgery.
There was strong local contribution to the programme which was organised by Prof Ronan O’Connell, UCD Professor of Surgery at St Vincent’s University Hospital and immediate past president of the society. As part of a week of associated activities, Prof Ronan Cahill, UCD Professor of Surgery at Mater Misericordiae University Hospital ran an operative skills workshop at the Hospital. Mr Sean Martin, UCD Clinical Lecturer delivered a laparoscopic skills course at RCSI in conjunction with Mr Dara Kavanagh (Tallaght Hospital).
