UCD Diagnostic Imaging Summer Schools

Fri, 5 February 16 18:57

UCD Radiography & Diagnostic Imaging have announced details of two Summer Schools focused on computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging modalities.

MRI Academy Summer School

The Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Academy Summer School takes place from Wednesday 8th - Friday 10th June 2016.  The MRI Academy will provide:

  • A 3-day course for radiographers and registrars that combines the fundamentals of MRI with advanced applications. (Option 1)
  • A 2-day course for radiographers and registrars begining their training in MRI or for experienced MR radiographers who may require a refresher course in the basic principles of MRI physics and scanning principles. (Option 2)
  • A 1-day advanced course for radiographers and registrars with an interest in more advanced applications of MRI. (Option 3)

The course content will be delivered by experienced UCD Academic Staff with some guest lectures from advanced practitioners.

Computed Tomography Academy Sumer School

CT Academy is aimed at Radiographers who have not yet completed formal postgraduate studies in Computed Tomography (CT) but have either undergone ‘in-house’ training in CT, or have an interest in training or specialising in CT.  The three-day course will take place over the 20th - 22nd June 2016 and will address current CT technology and recent developments with consideration for radiation protection and dose reduction.  Frequently used CT protocols will be evaluated with emphasis on patient preparation, positioning and parameter selection. Students will also learn how to perform common post processing tasks.

The aim of the CT Academy is to equip Radiographers with key CT principles that are relevant to their daily professional practices.  The CT Academy will be delivered via lectures by UCD staff and small group lab sessions to further enhance learning.  This progamme is endorsed by the Irish Institute of Radiography and Radiation Therapy for CPD purposes.
