The RAMI Section of Interns Study Day took place at the RCPI on Saturday 30th January 2016. A total of 338 abstracts were received from interns across all Intern Training Networks with medals award to the best oral and poster presentations in the categories of Case Presentation Medicine, Case Presentation Surgery and Clinical Research.
UCD researchers have produced a series of short animation videos designed to provide a better understanding of common genetic disorders and chromosomal re-arrangements. The 21 videos produced to date in seven languages have been viewed over 98,000 times across 200 countries.
As part of a number of planned clinical professorial positions, the UCD School of Medicine has announced the recruitment of both a Professor of Medicine & Therapeutics and a Professor of Clinical Pathology at the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital. Both positions are expected to add to the School’s considerable academic reputation by building an internationally competitive research groups. They will contribute strongly to our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and to academic development across the School. Both appointees will provide clinical leadership in their particular clinical specialty at one of Ireland’s foremost acute hospitals within the country’s largest hospital group.
UCD Radiography & Diagnostic Imaging have introduced an online programme (Safe CT) which supports continuous professional development of radiographers, radiation therapists and radiologists working with Computed Tomography (CT). The programme is designed to accommodate professionals in full-time employment through self-paced online learning. Recognising the growing collaborations with Italian radiographers, the School has also introduced an Italian language version of the course (Sicurezza in TC).
Congratulations to the UCD affiliated researchers at St Vincent's University Hospital who took a number of the awards at the Irish Thoracic Society Annual Scientific Meeting. Dr Sinead Walsh, a member of Professor Michael Keane’s Research Group at UCD Conway Institute won the award for Best Oral Presentation while Katherine Gaynor and N Murphy won the Best Poster Presentation.
The 2015 Dr Nicholas and Mrs Maura Martin Scholarship was awarded to Mr Reetesh Bose (Stage 3 Graduate Entry Medicine) which allowed him to undertake a clinical elective in paediatric haematology and oncology at the University of Manitoba, Winnipeg. Offering sage advice on the realities of life as a medical intern, Dr Fitzpatrick highlights that 'Patient safety is what ultimately matters - that's the rule!"

Our congratulations and best wishes to Professor Fergal Malone (UCD Medicine 1991, MD 1998) who has taken up the role of Master and Chief Executive Officer at the Rotunda Hospital, the oldest maternity hospital in the world.
