PMC Farewell 2016
On the 24th of November 2016, the School held a Farewell Ceremony for our Penang Medical College students on the occasion of their return to Penang to complete their clinical training. The event took place in the Kevin Barry Gallery of the UCD Charles Institute of Dermatology.
The Malaysian Ambassador His Excellence Dato’ Syed Sultan Idris attended along with the MARA Representative Mr Rahim Mohd and the Educational Attache Mr Azilee Aziz. Academic staff from the School of Medicine along with some of the Administrative staff who had liaised with the class throughout their time in UCD were also invited to attend the ceremony.
This Ceremony represents the students’ transition from their college education in Dublin to the beginning of their clinical education in Penang Medical College. The Ceremony saw the students receive their White Coats as a representation of the beginning of their clinical training. The 56 students were awarded their White Coats by our Dean of Medicine Prof Patrick Murray and our Assoicate Dean for International Relations, Dr Patrick Felle. The class had also voted on their favourite teachers throughout their time in UCD. The winners of this vote, Dr Peter Holloway, Dr Koon-Meng Chan and Dr Tom Flanagan were presented with a token of appreciation during the evening.
The occasion was a great success with the Ambassador giving a speech and remaining behind after to partake in photographs with students and to speak with attendees. This was also the last time Dato’ Idris will be attending a PMC Ceremony as his term comes to an end mid December 2016. Students had the opportunity to say goodbye to staff and friends alike as they finalised their time in UCD.
