New Online CPD Computed Tomography Programme

Sat, 23 January 16 20:27

UCD Radiography & Diagnostic Imaging have introduced an online programme (Safe CT) which supports continuous professional development of radiographers, radiation therapists and radiologists working with Computed Tomography (CT). The programme is designed to accommodate professionals in full-time employment through self-paced online learning.

CT now contributes the greatest proportion of radiation exposure to the general population from medical imaging and its use continues to grow. As CT technology constantly evolves and the number of applications expands, CT users need to be ever more conscious of radiation protection within the modality.

This 8-hour CPD course details essential dose optimisation techniques that puts patients welfare first. The programme includes use of diagnostic reference levels to identify excessive doses, ensure that imaging practice is dose efficient and comparisons of local CT doses nationally and internationally such that the course participants learn from best practice techniques.

Recognising the growing collaborations with Italian radiographers, the School has also introduced an Italian language version of the course (Sicurezza in TC).

The UCD Radiography & Diagnostic Imaging group provide a range of graduate taught programmes on this and other imaging modalities. It offers the only undergraduate radiography programme and is the national training centre for graduate diagnostic imaging programmes. The group enjoys a strong international reputation with research and teaching collaborations across European.
