Scientists at UCD Develop New Diagnostic Test for Rare Liver Disorder
Scientists at University College Dublin have identified a new genetic cause for a rare form of liver failure that affects young children. As a result, the UCD group has developed a non-invasive diagnostic test for this disorder, which can be used as a substitute for painful liver and muscle biopsies. The findings are published in Molecular Genetics and Metabolism.

John McCormick, first year Medicine student at UCD has been awarded the Institute of Biology of Ireland Excellence award in recognition of his outstanding performance in the recent Leaving Certificate Biology exam. John and three other students achieved the highest marks in the country.
UCD PhD Student Karen Coss Wins Neil Buist Award
Karen Coss, a Translational Medicine PhD Student at the UCD Clinical Research Centre has been awarded the prestigious Neil Buist Research Award by the United States Society for Inherited Metabolic Disorders. Karen's research focuses on long-term complications associated with Classical Galactosaemia, a rare metabolic disorder.
