2017 Intern Career Study Day

The UCD Intern Career Advice Day was held on Saturday, 18th November 2017 in the UCD Catherine McAuley Education & Research Centre, Nelson Street, Dublin 7. The event was attended by 64 interns from across the UCD Intern Training programme as well as a range of our senior clinical faculty.  In addition to keynote presentations, participants had an opportunity to practice interviews in advance of their upcoming BST applications and received career advice and mentoring from our dedicated team of UCD Academics and our adjunct clinical faculty. UCD interns upon successful completion of their CPD Intern Training Programme can progress onto a Basic Specialist Training Scheme as the next step in their journey to clinical independence.

Associate Professor Dermot Power, UCD Intern Coordinator presented on the RAMI Intern Study Day being held on January 27 2018 and the RAMI Mentorship Programme and benefits of RAMI membership. The RAMI mentorship programme offers interns a one-to-one mentoring relationship between an experienced professional mentor to support their academic and career progression. The main objectives of this programme is to link experienced medical fellows with interns/younger practitioners to help in Professional and Career development, Academic success and Networking.

2017 Intern Career Study Day - III

A series of practice interviews were held to prepare UCD interns for BST interviews in Anaesthesia (SAT Year 1 & 2), Core Specialty Training in Emergency Medicine CSTEM (1-3), General Internal Medicine, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Core Surgical Training ST1 – ST2, Common Stem Pathway (Radiology), General Practice, Psychiatry & Pathology. Interns were informally assessed during their practice interviews using a set- criteria including relevant professional qualifications, relevant electives, prizes, relevant audits/publications/abstracts, relevant skills courses, knowledge of training scheme, long term career goals and communication/Interpersonal skills.

A separate career evening was held for the Ophthalmology scheme and a special thank you for Professor Colm O Brien, Professor of Ophthalmology and Mr David Keegan, Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon, Mater Hospital.
