Graduate Training for Medical Practitioners
The programme is primarily oriented towards Registered Medical Practitioners whose roles will require training in these areas such as Medical Advisors to Ambulance Services or members of Immediate Care Schemes. Other registered practitioners will always be required to work within their relevant scope of practice. All participants will build on and contribute their existing clinical expertise and experience to the development of an effective inter-professional approach to patient care in this most demanding of settings.
Year one of the programme will introduce candidates to the core competencies required to manage medical and trauma emergencies in both adults and children in the pre-hospital phase of care. Therapeutics, skills training and care in special circumstances, including aspects of retrieval care, will be included in this phase.
Year two will include critical appraisal skills, a research dissertation and a clinical placement involving delivery of advanced pre-hospital emergency care.
The face to face components of the course will mainly be at UCD, these sessions will be held over various weekends and 0.5 - 1.0 day at the Schools of Medicine in UCD campus.
