Facilities & Research Environment

Dedicated Exclusively to Translational Research

The Charles Institute is a 2000 m2 research facility exclusively dedicated to translational research in cutaneous biology. The building literally bridges the gap between the UCD Health Sciences Centre and the UCD Conway Institute of Biomolecular and Biomedical Research via walkways.

Key Features

  • The large and bright laboratories of the institute are organised in a highly flexible and modular fashion, offering bench space for up to 50 scientists.
  • Separate labs hold large pieces of equipment, such as benches, freezers and flow cytometers.
  • Several meeting rooms, equipped with state-of-the-art communication technology, form part of the Charles Institute.
  • Lounge areas are found throughout the building, offering ample space to meet informally, relax, share thoughts or just have a cup of coffee.
  • Apart from separate offices for postdocs and senior staff, each student has an individual space aside from the laboratories for reading, writing (and thinking).

Floor Plan

The first and second floors primarily houses offices and meeting rooms. The third and fourth floors provide ample lab space.
