Management Information Systems

Introduction to MIS

Management Information Systems encompasses a wide cross-section of research interests teaching a broad portfolio of subjects covering Information Systems (IS), Electronic Commerce / Business, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Social and Organisational aspects of IS / ICT, Operations Research, Management Science and Systems Science. Consequently, the research centres associated with Management Information Systems are well positioned to provide support for PhDs that have an applied inter-disciplinary orientation. The research activities of members of the group are organized within two centres, which reflect a dual thematic focus:

  • CMSS, The Centre for Management Science and Systems
  • CITO, The Centre for Innovation, Technology & Organisation

Members draw heavily on their active research involvement while teaching postgraduate programmes at UCD's Smurfit Graduate School of Business and undergraduate programmes at the UCD Quinn School of Business.

Description and Background

The Management Information Systems area in UCD's School of Business in the College of Business and Law, was established in 1979 as a research and teaching group within the (then) UCD Faculty of Commerce.
