ARCH41030 Conflict Resolution & Heritage

The course comprises of lectures and skills training which are centred upon the conceptual basis of conflict theory, mediation and approaches to conflict resolution. The course is aimed at students who wish to develop their knowledge and understanding in the fields of contested heritage, conflict analysis, mediation and the role of heritage in conflict resolution processes. The lectures are structured around theoretical presentations and skills development with a particular focus on heritage and conflict resolution.

Learning Outcomes:

Upon completion of this course students should be able to:
1) Demonstrate their understanding of peace and conflict theory.
2) Demonstrate their conceptual and practical understanding of the theory of conflict analysis and how it can be used positively in forums where stakeholders have conflicting interests.
3) Develop a critical understanding of the relationship between heritage and armed conflict.
4) Deepen their knowledge of approaches to heritage and conflict resolution at the international level.
5) Identify how the process of mediation and acquired skills can address conflict and heritage disputes.
6) Assess how a mediation process can contribute to resolving complex, multi-party disputes.
