CHEN40450 Chemical Engineering Project

Academic Year 2023/2024

The students will undertake full-time work on a research topic in a specific field of Chemical Engineering, either in modelling, laboratory work or both, and they will be expected to present a mini-thesis at the conclusion of their studies. The content of the mini-thesis should demonstrate a technical mastery by the students in their chosen field of research supported by demonstrable analytical and communication skills, both oral and written.

Learning Outcomes:

At the conclusion of there project the students should: be able to communicate and elaborate on the methods and techniques employed in the broad area of their research topic; have acquired the skills to objectively assess and analyse, in a critical and technical manner, not only their own topic of research but be fully aware of the procedures and rational thinking required to embark on such an assessment in a much broader range to areas; be able to apply their abilities to develop a strategic research plan on a given topic and effectively design and manage a project; and be able to identify and assess all ethical issues associated with the project, as appropriate. The objectives of the module will be to foster research ability and critical thinking and to encourage a mastery of oral and written communication of ideas with a view to enhancing student creativity.
