COMP41260 Information Security Management I

This module is an introduction module which will allow students understand the key components of the national and global security ecosystem. They will become familiar with key concepts such as Physical Security, People Security, Data Security, IT Security & Crisis Management. Specific emphasis will be put on data security, data lifecycle and data compliance. The module will also focus on what constitutes critical infrastructure protection (CIP), how it fits into the security ecosystem. Students will also receive training on crisis management best practices with regards to data leakage and incidents relating to CIP. The module will introduce the following topics:

1. Introduction to Security Fundamentals (Physical Security, People Security, Data Security, IT Security, Crisis Management)

2. Focus on Data Security

3. Electronic Data Management (ILM/Archiving vs Security) & Compliance

4. Critical Infrastructure Protection

5. Introduction to Crisis Management

a. Data leakage and security incident management

b. CIP incident Management

c. Crisis management Best Practices

Learning Outcomes:

At the end of the module students:

The overall aim of this module is to allow students to get a 360 degree view of the security ecosystem such that they can then decide which area they want to specialize in.
