COMP41700 Seminar Series on Data Science

Academic Year 2019/2020

This module will incorporate a series of student-driven seminars on topics related to data science. The goal will be to explore the context and impact of data science in the real-world, through a presentation and discussion of relevant papers / articles. Six two-hour seminars will be held during the trimester (once a fortnight).

Each class will consist of a set of presentations on a chosen topic of interest followed by a discussion. Students will have two weeks to explore the topic by reading a set of papers and other resources provided by the module
co-ordinator in advance.

The exact format of the seminar will depend on the number of students attending. One possible format will consist of three group presentations, followed by a presentation by the module coordinator on
the day's topic, with students divided into groups, so that each group presents at least once during the trimester.

Students will be assessed based on their attendance and participation in the
presentation and discussions.
