COMP47280 Data Science Seminar Series

Academic Year 2023/2024

This module will incorporate a series of student-driven seminars on topics related to data science. The goal will be to explore the context and impact of data science in the real-world, through a
presentation and discussion of relevant papers / articles. Students will prepare group presentations. Classes will consist of presentations on the chosen topic and a discussion. About 6 topics will be discussed in a 12-week seminar series and students will submit essays on a subset of the topics discussed.. Furthermore, an exam covering all topics will be completed. Students will be assessed based on their participation in the
presentation and discussions, their CA work and their exam.

Topcis may include:
- Data science utopia - successes of data science
- Data science; privacy and governance
- Data science dystopia - pitfalls and problems with data science
- The future of computer architectures for data science
- The future of algorithms for data science
- Novel applications of data science
