CRWT30060 Creative Writing: Playwriting

Academic Year 2019/2020

This is an introductory course in playwriting, conducted as a practical workshop module. No prior experience is necessary but an active interest in the theatre will enhance the learning experience. The course will involve the study of a number of significant play texts and extracts. Students will be introduced to the following technical aspects of playwriting: character; dialogue; language; setting; structure; story. During the course students will submit an idea for a short play, then a section of their play for group workshop. A twenty-minute play will form the main basis of the portfolio submission for assessment, along with a short reflective/analytical response to the course.
