Academic Year 2023/2024

This module requires students to bring together their thinking and learning deriving from their studies of children and youth and to frame this in terms of a fully developed research proposal. Students will be assigned a supervisor to overview and support them in the proposal/research development.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of this module students will have:


1. Identified a research question in relation to children and youth and provide a clear rationale for the research question (s).

2. Demonstrated critical understanding of the field and capacity to synthesise theory and research through a review of relevant literature in the area.

3. Demonstrated critical understanding of the range of research methodologies appropriate to their research question, including data sources, sampling, and proposed methods of analysis.

4. Conducted a pilot study with critical reflection on implications for the study design.
